Preparation of Tax Returns for Businesses

We have prepared hundreds of tax returns for S Corporations, LLCs, and Partnerships including both general and limited. We also have experience in preparing C Corporation returns for nonpublic corporations.

Recordkeeping

We understand that sometimes businesses particularly individually owned, small, and medium sized businesses, may not have maintained the best recordkeeping for their business transactions, and we work with business to reconstruct their records so that tax returns can be prepared. Because we understand the documentation and substantiation rules for business expenses, we can reconstruct the records to improve the chances that expenses, for which documentation has not be well kept, will meet the IRS standards for deductibility.

We also are familiar with software recording keeping systems so that we can easily convert the records into useful categories for tax preparation purposes.

Past Due Returns

We have prepared past due returns for our clients who have failed to file for many years. The reasons for failure to file are varied, but this much is clear: it is extremely important to try to file the returns as soon as possible. The longer your returns are not filed:

  • The greater your potential for civil or criminal penalties could be. A criminal conviction could lead to jail time and substantial criminal fines.
  • The longer the absence of peace of mind. The liabilities associated with failure to file never expire. They remain open for as long as the returns are not filed.
  • The more difficult and complicated it becomes to gather the records, documents, and facts to file the returns.

This is how we can help you with unfiled tax returns.

  • We can prepare your returns even if you have lost your records.
  • We can make sure the income for past years is reported correctly. When you fail to file, the IRS computes your taxable income based solely on the records they have, NOT on the information you have that could reduce the amount of your taxable income.
  • We can obtain the correct tax form for the year or years you need to file as tax forms do change over the years, and correctly apply the law in effect for those years.
  • We can help you take advantage of any amnesty programs that exist on both the federal and state level.
